Succulent Barbecue Ribs steamed in beer and finished in the oven
These never fail ribs are a go to favorite at our house
If you feel like your dinner ideas are becoming stale, try keeping a slab of pork ribs in your freezer at all times so you can whip up this recipe and impress your fam! I always buy two or three slabs of ribs when they go on sale because they are such an inexpensive protein, keep for a very long time in the freezer and are just beyond delicious.
Serve them with the perfect side to bring the feel of a great barbecue joint to your table
I generally serve these with my Kickin’ Cole Slaw because it’s a marriage made in heaven. Find the slaw recipe here:

The first trick is removing the silver skin so that the rub can truly soak into the meat
My chef sister taught me this trick years ago. Who knew there was something called a silver skin on ribs and why should you even take it off? 🤔 It makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD with how the ribs taste. Not to mention, who really wants to eat that? So, here is my silver skin tutorial:

The second trick is how you place the ribs in your crockpot
Typically, you put a protein, veggies, etc in a crockpot and cover it with liquid. With this recipe, you want the beer to steam the meat so the ribs are placed on the sides of the pot and the liquid in the middle. I have also been known to use hard cider, root beer, Dr. Pepper, Sprite or whatever I have on hand. It will always turn out delicious.
Fall Off the Bone Easy Barbecued Ribs
Equipment
- Crockpot
Ingredients
- 1 slab Baby Back Pork Ribs approximately 3lbs
- 3 Tbsp Dry Barbecue Rub such as Famous Dave's
- 1 Can Beer Any kind you like!
- 1/2 cup Barbecue Sauce Again, pick your favorite
Instructions
- Prepare the ribs by cutting the slab in half and removing the silver skin. (please see instructional video above) Rub the ribs top, bottom and sides liberally with the spice rub. Wrap in aluminum foil (tightly) and refrigerate for a minimum of 8 hours.
- Stand each half of the ribs on its side in the pot as pictured. Pour the beer in the crockpot careful not to pour it directly on the ribs in order to keep that rub in place. Cook on low for 8 hours. At 7 hours 45 minutes, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit if finishing in the oven. If finishing on the grill, preheat your grill to medium.
- Carefully remove the ribs from the crockpot using large tongs. The ribs are very delicate and will fall off the bone, so be gentle with them!
- To finish in the oven, place ribs meat side up on a baking sheet and slather on the barbecue sauce. Bake for 10 -15 minutes or until sauce starts to char. To finish on the grill, place ribs meatiest side down and grill on medium heat for 5 – 10 minutes.
